The "cap" on the stem protects the upper, 4-piece part of the stem from breaking off.
If the next shot hits the shaft of the previous arrow just right,
it will not break off as it tends to do with plain or metal ring nylon shafts
. It will give a longer life to the shafts, there will be fewer arrows to bounce off,
the weight is only marginally more than that of the metal ring and
it will save the user a lot of annoyance
